The NYFW Spring 2017 lineup featured a fresh breath of lighter fabrics, some softer toned colors, and of course a ton of neck-breaking statement looks. Designers like Tory Burch, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors (designs pictured above), J. Crew, Ryan Roche, Coach and many others debuted looks with common themes like corresponding sets and silk materials. I personally enjoyed the subtle but brilliant nude-tone category, where many designers showcased edgy, reveling but gorgeous looks. A Yeezy inspired nude-tone lace belted jumpsuit by Ryan Roche was my favorite stand-out look. In my opinion, the designers made best use of all the current trends under the Nautical theme, using similar soft fabrics like silk and other prints showcased in other trends. Although the athletic chic had a few cute seperate pieces, the looks came across to me as tacky & played-out. The With The Band punk trend was either a hit or miss; Ralph Lauren made leather classy and Coach played it just edgy enough to still look high-fashion; far different than the other designers who came off more "Halloween". The other trends, like sorbet shades and the looks inspired by socialite photographer Slim Aaron's style were certainly breathtaking, but seemed to be playing it pretty safe.
What's that mean for US?
As far as trends go, I'd predict a spring full of floral vibes, lots of silk fabrics, pastel shades, and matching top-and-bottom sets. Don't be afraid to mix-and-match patterns, or to play-up a one-tone look. Here's a little outfit I matched up for this spring, featuring this super cute MANGO denim skirt with multicolored embroidered flowers that're totally making a comeback this year. I paired it up with a striped J.Crew sweater from NordstroM, inspired by the nautical preppy and stripe looks from the runways of New York Fashion Week, and some always-appropriate H&M pointed-toe sling-back flats. To complete this look, I'd throw on the functional featured pale pink Cynthia Rowley shoulder bag and yellow/pink tinted TopShop frames to compliment the gorgeous spring colors in the skirt.
