Although we've been witnessing it for the past 29 years, it wasn't until Friday, May 5th that my very own role model, Anna Wintour became legitimate fashion royalty. After a busy week of attending the Met Gala and flying to Paris for Chanel’s Cruise Show, the London-born style goddess headed to Buckingham Palace for a very special honor. At 67 years old, Anna was named a Dame Commander by Britain’s very own Queen Elizabeth for her efforts in fashion and journalism. She’s no newbie to big titles, however; in a recent Business of Fashion interview hailed her as “President Wintour”. During the ceremony, the sweet old queen struggled to pin the ever-cool and composed Anna Wintour's award brooch. Even the Queen shutters in the presence of fashion elite! Anna's been known for her very cool demeanor in front rows of fashion shows and her majorly influential voice in high-fashion as Vogue's editor-in-chief. Aside from her persuasive efforts in the fashion world, she’s also very involved in Democratic politics. She was the fourth top donor to Obama's 2012 re-election campaign, and served as a vital advocate of Hillary Clinton's campaign this past election; she even offered Hilary Clinton Vogue's approved endorsement. Dame Wintour accepted her award from the Queen with style and grace; with a big smile in a pale pink Chanel Haute Couture double-breasted coat with a wide belt layered over a sheath dress. With a pair of strappy nude Manolo Blahnik heeled sandals and her signature dark sunglasses, Anna officially crossed over from figurative fashion royalty to the real deal. Would it be too much to ask her try a crown on for us, just for fun?
