Rainy Day Runway

Dressing for a rainy day can be a drag. We all wait for springtime to finally bust-out those designer sandals and that new maxi skirt for everyone to awe in envy. Unfortunately, as many of us know, spring also brings lots (and LOTS) of moisture. Where I'm from, the weather ranges from one type of crazy to the next. The only thing I can take away from facing weather from a magician's hat is that it's best to be over prepared than under-prepared. To be sure you avoid a weather wardrobe disaster, take these tips for fighting against those infamous spring sprinkles!

1. Know Your Battle

It's impossible to beat crazy weather if it blind-sides you. It seems obvious to do, but I always take time to check the tempature and weather during the times I plan to be out. Knowing when/when not to layer my clothes & dressing appropriately for what I'm about to head out in always keeps me ahead of the game.

2. Safe and I'm Not Sorry

Another tip for staying sane this spontaneous season is to be prepared for ANYTHING. Keep an emergency pack of gloves in your car, always have an umbrella available, and for Gods sake: if you leave the house in shoes not appropriate for the weather, have a spair pair to slip into. None of us can endure watching that type of suffering.

2. Conquer the "Rainy-Day Rut"

It's easy to hear rain on your window in the morning and decide you'll try again tomorrow. But, stay strong designer diva! There's ways to fight against those dreary raindrops.

Wear your hair styled in a way that rain can't destroy; for example - braids. If you can't braid, learn what kind of bun fits you best and wrap that hair up tight. The less you stress about those locks, the more time you'll have to focus on staying dry (and looking good while doing it)! Next, I'd suggest dressing up some of your cuddly favorites - maybe a cozy t-shirt and soft cardigan. Don't worry, I won't tell on you if you wore them to bed last night. Pair up those special pieces with a few functional weather fighting accents, like a trench coat or hooded vest, and step into the storm in comfort with style!

Don't be weakened by the weather. Make any storm your rainy day runway.

Need some style inspo?

I put together this outfit inspired by the rainy, breezy days of spring ahead of us. I started out with this gorgeous always-appropriate light pink trench coat from Rosegal. To stay comfy and cuddly in any weather, I picked out a casual Billabong baseball tee to compliment the pink trenchcoat, and some light-blue distressed Hollister boyfriend jeans to compliment the blue text on the tee. To offset the two pink pieces and add some more layers, (great for changing tempatures!!) I added a super cozy long grey cardigan from Rotita and a black fringe crossbody from Wilson's Leather. To pull all the colors together, I finished this look with a grey pair of rain booties with pink floral accents from zappos.com.
